What Are the Components of a Healthy Lifestyle?
A healthy lifestyle is basically a subjective concept. You are probably asking yourself – what does he mean by subjective? Well one persons idea of healthy may not be considered to be very healthy by another, because they may be far more advanced on their particular journey towards a healthy lifestyle. I would like you to think of a healthy lifestyle as a journey in order to realize that it doesn’t matter where you are, but were your heading. Someone else may be further along than you it does not in any way diminish your position remember this in not a race.
In these few paragraphs I will try to outline the basic concepts of a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle consists of three basic components: Fitness, Nutrition, & Spirituality. You cannot truly be healthy if you do not have fulfillment in all three categories. You have to strive to achieve a good healthy balance between the three categories.
Fundamentals of a Healthy Lifestyle:
· Nutrition arguably is the most important of the lifestyle concept – let’s face it without food you could not live for very long. In order to achieve a healthy body most of us may need to undo some pretty bad habits. Through no fault of our own we have been led to believe that consuming certain foods are good for us. There is so much misinformation out there it is difficult to know what foods are actually good for you and what foods are not.
· Fitness The human body is a wonderfully adaptive mechanism. You would be surprised how much abuse it can recover from – Never sell yourself short what you may not be able to do today does not mean you cannot surpass your greatest expectations tomorrow. Get up get out and get active find activities you like and stick to it, and in no time at all you will be on the road to a healthier body. Remember fitness is not about the biggest muscles it’s about conditioning and endurance.
· Spirituality A healthy body is directly linked to a healthy mind. I am not saying that you should go out and become some kind of religious fanatic, or that you should believe in what I believe in, but what I am saying is you have to hold yourself accountable to some higher ideals do whatever it takes to gain contentment and inner peace. I am not sure who said it but there a saying that states “A person that doesn’t believe in something will fall for anything”.
Pursuing a healthy lifestyle is a life long journey filled with lots of ups and downs, success and pitfalls don’t get discouraged it is the pursuit of a better you. Educate yourself on better nutrition and fitness practices. Find out what makes you happy, but most of all learn to be happy with yourself. Don’t overwhelm yourself start off slowly, and find a pace you can live with if you try to do too much too soon you will condemn yourself to failure.
